A heads up to drivers on the Trans Canada Highway – there will be paving work done this summer on highway ramps through the city.
Dawson Construction will work Sundays to Fridays between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., with the project getting underway by early next week
Director of Communications Robert Koopmans says there may be brief highway closures, but the roads will reopen at 6 a.m. every day.
“They are going to start up at the Copperhead Exchange, and move down through the Pacific Way interchange, through the Summit Interchange, down into Valleyview into the Vicar’s Road area,” he said. “They are also going to move to the north, Highway 5 towards the Rayleigh area doing some work on the Halston, some of those key interchanges and exchanges along the way.”
While most of the work will be on the highway ramps, there will be a few portions of the highway that will also be repaved.
“When the actual paving machines will be working, I don’t really know. A lot of it is weather dependent, and they’ll be adjusting their schedule as need,” Koopmans added.
“When they are working on the interchange, it’s very likely that there will be detours that will see people diverted to another interchange, perhaps the next one down the road for example, while those paving machines are working.”
Koopmans says the $9 million project is expected to be completed by August.
Paving work will move down the Trans-Canada Highway east, starting at the Copperhead Road exchange (exit 366). We will be posting daily updates on the progress of the project on Facebook and Twitter.
