University of Evansville basketball stand-out Jerry Sloan has died.
The Utah Jazz — whom Sloan led to the NBA finals in 1997 and 1998, announced his passing.
Sloan played on the Purple Aces’ undefeated National Champion team in 1964 and ’65.
Sloan was appointed the Aces’ coach in 1976, but resigned shortly thereafter, missing by a whisker the flight to Nashville that crashed, killing the entire U of E basketball team.
He coached the Chicago Bulls and then the Utah Jazz. In 2016 he was diagnosed with Lewy Body’s Dementia and with Parkinsons. Jerry Sloan was 78.
