COLUMBUS, Ind. – There were lots of individual winners in Tuesday’s Primary Election in Bartholomew County, but perhaps the biggest victory went to the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation (BCSC). The property tax increase referendum to support BCSC that was on the ballot passed convincingly, receiving a “yes” from over 61% of the voters.
The school system says the tax revenues gained will be used to increase teacher and support staff pay, update the corporation’s bus fleet and technology, sustain mental health and social-emotional health initiatives, and maintain the presence of school resource officers.
The property tax rate increase will be $0.156 per $100 of the assessed property value. BCSC says the average homeowner will probably see a $7.79 per month increase in property tax liability.
