UPDATE – Kamloops RCMP say the driver of a car that went off the road on the Coquihalla Highway just outside of Kamloops this morning has died.
Const. Crystal Evelyn says the crash was reported to police by someone who saw the vehicle in the ditch near the Cache Creek exit onto Highway 1, as they were passing by around 11 a.m.
“Emergency responders provided medical attention to a woman in her 60s, who was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene,” she said. “The vehicle was an older model blue four-door Ford Explorer.”
“The BC Coroners Service has been notified and is investigating the cause of the woman’s death.”
Two southbound lanes and a northbound lane of the Coquihalla were closed while police investigated, though the highway has since reopened. A specific cause for the crash is also not yet clear.
Evelyn says police are asking any witnesses or people with dashcam footage to contact Tk’emlups Rural RCMP at 250-314-1800 and reference file 2021-13394.
This is the third day in a row there has been a fatal crash in the Kamloops area.
A Kamloops man in his 70s died yesterday after losing control of his motorcycle on the Halston bridge, while a 64-year-old man from Aldergrove died on Monday night after rear-ending another semi on the Coquihalla.
