Sunrise Records will be moving into the old Payless Shoes location on the upper level at Aberdeen Mall sometime this fall.
There is no word yet on an exact opening date, but Marketing Manager Kristi Williams says Sunrise Records wants to be open before the holiday shopping season.
She believes a record store will be a good addition to Aberdeen Mall.
“You know, vinyl is kind of making a comeback and there’s other music that they have,” she said. “They also have movies and box sets of TV shows, games, they’ve got some apparel, a lot of niche things for some of the bigger TV shows, Game of Thrones or the Walking Dead, that kind of stuff.”
In 2017, Sunrise Records moved into 70 former HMV locations in Canada, including the Kelowna location at the Orchard Park Mall, which at the moment is the closest location to Kamloops.
Williams adds the store will appeal to a wide variety of people when it opens.
“We don’t have a music store, just specifically for that,” Williams said. “We do have Best Buy but their offering is limited as well, so this is something that is different and hopefully will appeal to the masses.”
She says its shaping up to be an exciting time at the mall.
“We just had Saje Natural Wellness open, and Cali Nails, a new nail salon has just opened this week as well. We’re definitely filling some of those empty spots and we’re just trying to make sure that we diversify,” said Williams.
The news comes one week after Radio NL learnt that Marshalls will move into a portion of the former Sears at the mall, although the timeline there is not yet clear as well.
