The Sagebrush Theatre is closed due to a serious structural issue in the building’s roof.
Crews were setting up for the next Western Canada Theatre (WCT) performance when they noticed some loose drywall in the ceiling.
WCT Managing Director Evan Klassen says they’ve been in contact with building co-owners School District 73.
“And they brought in a structural engineer to assess the situation, discovering a few more problems in the attic space above the audience chamber,” he said. “That space does need to be worked upon, and until they have a timeline for resolution, we are not able to move forward with events at this time.”
Estimates are that facility will be closed for six to eight weeks, though Klassen says that could change depending on the nature of the repairs.
“We’re working in the space all the time,” he added. “Our technicians manage that space.”
“We’re always aware of the condition of the building, and this was something that was noticed at this time.”
There’s no word as to what the repairs could cost at this time.
Kamloops Live! Box Office will be reaching out to ticket holders regarding alternate arrangements.
The WCT performance of Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story will go ahead at the Coast Hotel instead.
