The mayor of Sun Peaks says a new non-market building for employees will relieve immediate pressure on demand.
Sun Peaks Resort is opening the 82-unit building next week, which is worth $4 million.
Al Raine says the municipality is working to help streamline staff housing being built.
“We’d like to do the land assembly and put the zoning in place and then partner with employers to have them physically build it. But we’ll make sure that we’re doing that at below-market value, and that will all be non-market housing. So it will not be housing that could go into the marketplace.”
Raine says building staff housing is a growing focus going forward.
“Quite frankly 82 units if we’re looking two or three years out is really a small number. We’re going to need that probably three, four fold, over the next two or three years.”
