Travellers be aware – Environment Canada says snowfall is expected on mountain highways in the Kamloops area tonight.
Forecaster Doug Lundquist says any rainfall in high terrain will turn to snow likely around midnight, and continue overnight.
“We’re expecting say, perhaps, five to 10 centimetres of snow. Maybe 15 on the Hope-to-Merritt section of the Coquihalla, Merritt-to-Kamloops maybe in the five-to-10-centimetre range, Merritt to Kelowna more like 10-to-15 as well. So it’s definitely going to be snowy here tonight,” Lundquist says.
“Just in case it cools off a little faster than we expect, I think I would look at it any time after suppertime, perhaps. But certainly the main bulk of snow is expected overnight.”
Lundquist says flurries will continue tomorrow before drier weather is expected to move in by Wednesday.
A special weather statement is in place for the Coquihalla, the Okanagan Connector, the Allison Pass on Highway 3, and the Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass on Highway 1.
