A Kamloops woman has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for teachers and staff affected by the fire at Parkcrest Elementary.
Sarah Black has set a fundraising goal of $50,000.
“Our community is devastated by the tragedy of losing our beloved school, Parkcrest Elementary,” she wrote. “We are hoping to raise funds, specifically for the teachers and staff that have lost everything they have accumulated over the many years of teaching.”
“Teachers and staff, moving forward need to acquire everything they have worked so hard to provide for our kids and their education, a lot of which came out of their own pockets.”
Black says she’s grateful that no one was injured or lost after the fire.
“If we can all work together as a community and pull together as Canadians, we can get teachers back on their feet and ready to provide our kids with the best guidance and outlook for the future.”
As of 12 Noon, the campaign had raised just over $7,000.
